Olana's Deep Air series of talks continues this year, starting on Saturday, February 27th with a talk by Christopher Stackhouse and Lori Anderson Moseman. The Deep Air series is designed to navigate artistic practice as it relates to ecology, local geography and landscape. The title of the series, “The Deep Air Poetry & Art Series,” plays on the language of a book owned by Frederic Church, titled “A Fairy Land of Science,” by Arabella B. Buckley and published in 1882. Buckley’s text, written as popular science for all ages, invites us to imagine a view of earth looking down through space, or through the “deep air”, this is the vantage point that we seek when exploring artists’ work in the series. In 2016, the series focuses on the broad themes of travel, which Frederic Church did so much of in his life in order to seek inspiration and enlightenment. Often Church was inspired by other disciplines and subjects when he planned his travels as are the artists in this series.
All talks will be held at Olana Wagon House Education Center, 5720 Route 9G, Hudson
